This is for my experience in May 2024. My friend and I were hungry after exploring the area and we found Kikori Cafe. The owner/chef was friendly and he made a delicious BLT sandwich. He even followed me back on social media in which I am honored! The vibe of the cafe has a retro/eco feel. It definitely feels like you’re in a big tree house. Or it feels like a very nice cabin and you’re on a peaceful retreat! You can really feel the calm and nature spirit of Okutama at Kikori Cafe. I hope to be back in the near future! Thank you!

One of the most charming little cafes I’ve ever been to. It’s right in the middle of the forest/mountain, with lovely open windows to enjoy the sound of the river and views. Nice ambience inside with quiet jazz music in the background and lots of cool decorations. The BLT and cheesecake were delicious, and the owners were nice. Such a nice place to rest after hiking!

Stumbled upon this place while exploring the Hattonosu canyon area. Such a beautiful interior with a dreamy view - it was like having lunch and coffee in a treehouse. If I ever come back to Japan, I will surely return.

You can really tell the food is made with love - I ordered egg sandwich and my partner ordered a cup of soup and toast - it was simple and remarkably good. Not some over the top restaurant looking for good reviews, just good people in a really beautiful space, making modest food with love, remarkably well. My favorite place I've been outside of Tokyo city and I will continue to return! I even got a photo with the owner :)

Was done hiking with my wife from okutama station down to hanotosu and just walking distance from the station this cafe is found. The ambient is warm and they have books! (But in japanese) the coffee is really good and the sandwich too. Maybe its a bit expensive considering relatively good the place is its worth it. Would definitely visit again if comback for hiking again.

A charming and quirky café—perfect for a break after exploring Hatonosu Canyon. The rare cheesecake and chocolate tart are both excellent. Next to the café, there’s a staircase that leads all the way down to the river. Along the way, you’ll pass a row of abandoned buildings, adding a touch of mystery to the walk.

Came to the canyon in a rainy day for a quick hike to the bridge and back. On the way back we stopped here for some food. Food is great and the atmosphere is awesome. The owner has mini replicas of his restaurant along the outside for up close bird watching.

amazing cafe near the hatonosu canyon—a perfect way to end the day swimming in the gorge. atmosphere was perfect with all the trinket and book collections they have and record music playing. these add sweet and rustic touch to their place, which sits on the edge of the river. my only qualm is that the dressing they used for the sandwich was a bit too strong for my taste, but otherwise would recommend going if you’re in the area.
